Low Moisture Carpet Cleaning Information
Low moisture cleaning has quickly become a popular method for cleaning carpets and hard floor surfaces.
It is a fairly new concept taking off in the last five years.
Low moisture carpet cleaning has a number of advantages:
- The whole process uses a fraction of the amount of water compared to traditional hot water extraction carpet cleaning.
- Low moisture means very short dry times. Carpets are usually completely dry within one to two hours.
- Safe for all carpets, including wool and nylon where a risk of dye bleed can cause damage to delicate fibres.
- This method reduces the risk of excessive damp, leading to mould and foisty smell issues, especially during the winter months or when the weather is humid.
- Environmentally friendly and no harsh chemicals are used.
-
Saving water is a big reason why it has become so popular.
-
This makes a big difference in helping our planet.
The Process of Low Moisture Cleaning.
Low moisture / quick dry carpet cleaning uses an encapsulation (encap) cleaning agent. It is also paired with other spotters that do not leave any residue.
The encap chemical is concentrated and diluted, usually with "tap hot" water before being applied to the carpet using a sprayer.
Various spotters are also used (when required) to remove specific staining - ie coffee, red wine, pet urine etc.
The encap solution works by attaching itself and surrounding the dirt and soil particles in the carpet, which then crystalise as it dries.
A rotary cleaning machine is used to agitate the encap using a pad.
A new pad is then fitted to the machine to lift the majority of the encapsulated dirt and soil.
The remaining encap will dry completely and is simply vacuumed out of the carpet during the regular cleaning regime.
In some instances, carpets can appear cleaner following two or three regular vacuums, this is due to the dried encap lifting any remaining dirt from the carpets.
Commercial Carpet Low Moisture Cleaning:
- Fast drying times, allowing carpets to be walked on straight away.
- Security doors don’t have to be left open to accommodate hoses.
- Quiet machinery that can be utilised during regular business hours.
- Areas can be cleaned in sections causing minimal disruption to your staff - unoccupied offices or stairsways for example.

Carpet Repairs Explained
Why Replace When We Can Repair . . .
Stained, ripped or damaged carpet can affect the look of your home and cost you both time and money.
Whether you need a burn repair, pet damage repairs or any other form of damage repairing to your carpets, we will get your carpets looking as good as new quickly and affordably.
We've repaired thousands of damaged carpets over the years. Most customers admit to pricing a complete new carpet due to the damage.
Repairs are a quick and affordable option, especially when the carpet is in good condition and does not require a complete replacement.
No spare carpet - no problem - we have various repair options available.
PATCH REPAIRS:
A patch repair involves cutting out and removing the damaged area.
A new, matching piece of carpet is inserted to the damaged area.
Burns and pets are the most common causes of damage requiring a patch.
Patch repairs are glued from the back and to the existing carpet using a hot glue seaming tape, ensuring any movement in the carpet will not create a visible joint.
RE-THREADING:
Pulled threads usually occurs with loop pile carpets.
The thread is a continuous strip across the width of the carpet.
The most common cause of thread damage is cats clicking at the loops or vacuum damage - the vacuum can catch a loose thread and pull out a longer section - eventually snapping the thread.
RETUFTING:
We can repair or re-tuft carpet burns and pet damage up to half an inch (13mm) in diameter. Anything larger would require a small patch.
Re-tufting involves removing the damaged tufts or fibres and cleaning the area and installing new tufts from your spare carpet.
If you don’t have any spare carpet or off-cuts, we can take enough tufts from the edge of the carpet where they are tucked behind the gripper rods.
We can then install the new tufts either by re-tufting or re-weaving as appropriate.
Using tufts or fibres from either an off-cut or from the edging of the room, we’re guaranteed an exact match and a quality repair.
PERMANENT SPILLS AND STAINS:
A very common repair involves spilled paint. Emulsion paint is possible to remove depending how long the spill has been left. Gloss and solvent based paints are permanent.
Bleach is also an issue, but not as much now due to most modern carpets made from man made materials and classed as bleach safe.
Wool and nylon carpets are mostly affected by bleach damage due to the fibres being dyed after the carpet manufacture process.
The best option for this type of repair is to patch repair.
This is done by cutting out the damaged carpet and inserting a matching piece.

We can usually quote you over the phone, or if you prefer, send some images of the damage and we'll get back to you.

How We Clean Your Carpets
Before we can start our cleaning, there are a few things you can do first to make the job go smoother. First, you will want to remove any breakable items from the area. We can move some of the light furniture, we don’t want to endanger your fragile items. Finally, ensure that all children and pets will be kept away from where we are working. As part of our carpet cleans we will carry out the following process:
Inspection
We start the process by examining your carpets. We'll inspect the main problem areas that need to be addressed individually and take note of the kind of carpet you have and how much cleaning it should require. We'll let you know if there are any stains that we don’t expect to be able to remove.
A PH test and a dye test will determine the best method of cleaning your carpets safely.
Pre-vacuum
We use an industrial strength vacuum cleaner to remove most of the dirt and other particles from your carpet. This helps us to clean better and removes the loose debris on your carpet.
Pre-spray treatment
We use an organic pre-treatment spray on all spots and stains. This also loosens up the embedded dirt and makes it easier to remove.
Extraction & Rinse
Once the pre-treatment spray has had time to work, we will flush out the carpet with a water solution containing a mild acid rinse. This stablises any dyes in your carpet and removes any cleaning residue. We use a high powered carpet cleaning system to push the warm water at high speeds and ensure all the loose particles are swept away. We regulate the pressure during this step to ensure that the carpet never becomes too wet..
Grooming the Carpet
A soft brush rake is then used on the carpet pile to ensure all the fibres are facing the same direction. This also allows the carpet to dry faster and look more attractive.
Stainguard (if requested).
A quality stainguard can be added to your carpets, providing additional protection from everyday soiling. There is an additional cost for this service. We will discuss the overall costs prior to commencing any work.
Inspecting the Work
Once your carpet sas been cleaned you should wait to vacuum your carpet until 24 hours have passed since the cleaning. The tabs and blocks protecting the furniture should also not be removed until after 24 hours following the cleaning. Please also keep in mind that hard surfaces can be slippery. You should take caution when stepping from the carpet onto an uncarpeted floor.
We have a minimum call out charge of £50.00 - so it may be cost effective to do more than one room at a time.
What’s Hiding in Your Carpet?
Carpets can be a great flooring option, adding warmth and comfort to your home or business. But do you know what’s really lurking in carpet?
Because of all the traffic it encounters daily, carpet attracts and hides some of the worst allergens, bacteria, germs, organisms and other hazardous particles.
Dirty carpets can affect your health and the indoor air quality of your home or business, and create unpleasant odours over time.
SO WHAT’S HIDING IN YOUR CARPET?
Dirt and Soil
The average carpet can accumulate up to 20kg of dust. dirt and soil every year - easily brought in from outside, it makes it’s way into your carpet mainly on footwear or via your pets.
Pet Hair and Skin Flakes
The average person sheds 1.5 million skin flakes per day. Microscopic insects (such as fleas, ticks or mites) feed on skin flakes. Regular vacuuming can help reduce the amount of dead skin cells and pet hair that have fallen into your carpet.
Bugs
Your carpet also harbours a number of species of bed bugs, fleas and dust mites. Mites can cause allergies through their moulted skin, waste and through the mites themselves.
Mildew, Mould and Other Bacteria
Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it isn’t there! Pathogens such as salmonella, E. coli, and staphylococcus can hide in carpet fibres and cause illness. Mould or mildew can also thrive in a warm, wet environment. Keeping carpet dry will help prevent the formation of mould or mildew.
Odours
Toxic substances from cigarette smoke can make their way into carpet fibres. Pet urine and spilled food or drink can also cause odours to form in your carpet if not cleaned immediately and properly.
Food and Drinks
Spilled food or drink not just leave unsightly stains but also serve as a food source for bacteria and organisms.
To prevent permanent stains or odours from forming, the key is to act quickly - absorb any spilled liquids by blotting. Then spot treat the area.
The contaminants that exist in your carpet can cause allergies, sneezing, colds, or breathing problems. If there are toxic substances from cigarette smoke embedded in your carpet, your family may even be at risk for cancer. The waste produced by dust mites can also cause allergic reactions.
Minimize the carpet culprits
- Taking off shoes before walking on carpet can reduce the amount of dirt and other bacteria that are tracked in and stomped into the carpet.
- Placing area rugs in high-traffic areas, as they are washable and can be replaced more easily than carpeting.
- Vacuuming once or twice a week is a great start to reducing the number of contaminants in your carpet. But since vacuuming cannot remove everything that’s hiding in your carpet, you must take extra steps to get your carpet as clean as possible.
- Having your carpets professionally deep cleaned once a year can reduce the amount of unseen pests, prevent sickness and allergies, and remove or prevent undesirable odours.
- Deep cleaning reaches down to the bottom layers of your carpet.
We offer a variety of expert carpet cleaning, odour removal and stain removal services.
What Are The Benefits?
Removing Allergens:
Carpets can hold a lot of things you don’t want. Pet hair, dust particles, bacteria, mould, mildew, mud brought in on shoes and more . . .
Preventing Infestation:
Many houses have a hidden menace the owner isn’t aware of: dust mites. They’re microscopic and everywhere. A major source of allergens.
Eliminating Odours:
Houses are full of smells that no one needs to mention. Pets and spillages are the prime culprits leading to stains, which result in mould growth and bacteria causing respiratory issues and infection.
Keeps it Looking New:
Removing deep down grime rejuvenates your carpets for years to come.
Extending the Life of you Carpet:
New carpets are not cheap. An annual deep cleaning removes the dirt, staining and tiny particles that the vacuum cleaner misses. Small particles that are not picked up by vacuuming alone add to the wear and tear. It’s estimated that the average living room carpet holds 10kg of mud & soil.
